Welcome to Monash Uni’s XYX Lab – Where Design Thinking is Creating Safer Urban Environments for Women, Girls and the LGTBI Community
“Building equity into urban life requires long-term vision and a strategic - often radical - approach to the design process, and we do not seek quick-fix design solutions, but rather seek to offer insights and create moments that contribute towards a larger movement for change.”
Meet Gene, Head of Design at Monash University, and founding member of XYX Lab – a team of experienced design researchers exploring gender-sensitive design practices and theory - operating at the intersection of gender, identity, urban space and advocacy. With over twenty years’ experience as a communication designer and educator, Gene has played a central role in XYX Lab, combining his knowledge of gender spatial practices and communications design to mitigate gender inequality in Australia’s urban environments.
As a key speaker at Design Thinking 2020, Gene will share insights into how his team are deploying solutions through non-linear processes to identify real-life challenges, as well as how they are merging design thinking with policy, by working effectively with all stakeholders.
